In this paper, we compute the 1-gap sequences of 1-Weierstrass points on non-hyperelliptic smooth projective curves of genus 10. Furthermore, the geometry of such points is classified as flexes, sextactic and tentactic points. Also, an upper bounds for their numbers are estimated.Comment: 12 page

Control, conflict, and motivation in socio-cultural context.

The central argument of this thesis is that unlike in the West, organizational behavior in the Middle East and the Indian sub-continent is, predominantly, not a function of work/task related imperatives but largely determined by the broader socio-cultural context, norms and values of the respective societies. Based on extensive interviews and participant and nonparticipant observation in the Middle East and sub-continent, and content analysis of media reports and lìterature, the effects of the respective socio-cultural contexts are documented in terms of three key determinants of organizational behavior, conflict, control and motivation. The thesis examines traditional and modern 'Western' sources of literature regarding control, conflict and motivation and the nature of culture itself and draws attention to the need for modification in certain 'Euroamerican' theories when applied to the strong social, familial and cultural structures, values, beliefs and assumptions present in the two other cultures investigated. Recommendations are put forward as to the kind of changes in the socio-cultural context of the Middle East and Indian sub-continent, if organizational behavior is to be transformed. In conclusion, a picture emerges of the stark differences between the cultures in terms of status, incomes, role of family and state, social control, family structure, population pressures and religious control - all of which are evidence of the predominance of the sociocultural context in determining organizational behavior. A theory is offered stating that organizational behavior is primarily a derivative of the structures and functions of broader socio-cultural institutions. A corollary of the said theory is that patterns of control, conflict, and motivation are strongly influenced by the structural-functional properties of a socio-cultural system, and hence, 'intrinsic motivation' is a rare phenomenon

Time-Varying Estimation of Crop Insurance Program in Altering North Dakota Farm Economic Structure

This study examines how federal farm policies, specifically crop insurance, have affected the farm economic structure of North Dakota’s agriculture sector. The system of derived input demand equations is estimated to quantify the changes in North Dakota farmers’ input use when they purchase crop insurance. Further, the cumulative rolling regression technique is applied to capture the varying effects of the farm policies over time. Empirical results from the system of input demand functions indicate that there is no moral hazard since North Dakota farmers will increase fertilizer and pesticide use in the presence of crop insurance. Beltrami-like fields created by baroclinic effect in two-fluid plasmas

A theory of two-dimensional plasma evolution with Beltrami-like flow and field due to baroclinic effect has been presented. Particular solution of the nonlinear two-fluid equations is obtained. This simple model can explain the generation of magnetic field without assuming the presence of a seed in the system. Coupled field and flow naturally grow together. The theory has been applied to estimate B-field in laser-induced plasmas and the result is in good agreement with experimental values.Comment: 3 page

OPTIONAL UNIT POLICY IN CROP INSURANCE

Utilizing ordered logit we examine the presence of two kinds of asymmetric information-adverse selection (intertemporal variability) and moral hazard (interspatial and/or residual variability) as revealed by the choice of optional units in Federal crop insurance utilizing Risk Management Agency's 1996-2000 cotton yield and loss data files. Further, a tobit model is estimated to examine the factors explaining the loss cost ratio from Risk Management Agency perspective. Potential costs of adverse selection and/or moral hazard in optional unit provision are estimated to be as high as $180 million in US cotton over the 1996-2000 period.
